Strip-till on show in the chill, Sydney Basin NSW
Thanks to Val and Sam Micallef for hosting a farm walk on a chilly Monday afternoon at the end of May.
Val and Sam’s Orthman 1tRIPr strip-till gear was showcased on their lettuce – corn – brassica rotation.
With perfect soil moisture, Val demonstrated the rip, shatter, tilth, and near perfect seedbed created by the 1tRIPr at 9 km/h.

AHR’s Dr Kelvin Montagu dug a soil pit and showed rooting depths, soil horizons, compaction areas, and discussed irrigation strategies for more efficient crop water use.
Andy Ryland (IPM Consulting) was also on hand to discuss cover crops and the challenges they can bring to monitoring and controlling insects.
